Experience & Expertise
Angus has been in continual practice at the Bar since 1992. He spent his formative years in a mixed set of Chambers. This resulted in him undertaking a vast range of work. In the 1990’s he formed close associations with a set in Kingston, Jamaica and with lawyers from the Gambia. He then assisted in numerous Privy Council cases, flying to Caribbean and the US. The clients ranged from representing the lawyers for the Medellin Cartel, owners of Hotels to that of representing private individuals.
During that period he undertook both numerous leading and led criminal cases of Murder, Child Kidnap and White Collar Fraud. Angus was instructed in numerous high profile Terrorist cases, including one individual who was specifically named by the United Nations Security Council. Over a decade ago, Angus changed his practice which has been for some time now, mostly civil, though he still accepts instructions on suitable criminal matters. Angus would say that his passion and strength lies in advocacy and specifically contentious cross examination.
Crime and regulatory offences
Angus has a background in dealing with criminal offences of the most serious nature. Whilst he has diversified his practice in recent years, he remains very well-placed to advise and represent private clients charged with the full range of criminal offences and is frequently instructed to attend criminal proceedings in the magistrates' court, the crown court and the Court of Appeal.
Angus is also frequently instructed on behalf of his commercial client base to defend them against criminal and quasi-criminal regulatory offences in the criminal courts, being prosecuted by the CPS, Local Authorities and a number of other prosecuting authorities such as the HSE and EA. Examples of the regulatory offences Angus has dealt with include charges brought under the environmental, health and safety, trading standards and licensing regimes.
Professional regulation
Angus is highly experienced in this area & undertakes a large range of regulatory work before the NMC, GMC, HCPC, GDC and TA. He undertakes Coroners Inquests, Court of Protection, ACCA, VAT and Upper Tax Tribunal work.
Business and commercial
Obtaining, or defending, injunctions on behalf of Companies. Angus appears frequently in the High Court instructed in Directors Disqualifications, Liquidation’s and Partnership disputes. He deals with all manner of contractual issues. Angus is retained frequently by certain oil companies and by one of the largest retailers in the country. This results in him appearing in Scotland as well as England and Wales.
Property & private client
Angus represents a number of high net value individuals in relation to property law and all types of insolvency and bankruptcy work. Angus has significant experience of claims for possession and mortgage/rent arrears on behalf of both private and public authority landlords. He acts for both landlords and tenants and also advises on property ownership and ToLATA matters. This ranges from disrepair & unpaid rent to high value property claims.
Employment:
Angus represents a number of national organisations including Dunelm Soft Furnishing [12,000 employees] and the British Footwear Association. For Claimant work, he has obtained the statutory maximum awards in cases of Unfair Dismissal. He has achived success for lay clients in a wide variety of claims before the Employment Tribunal, including:

Angus accepts instructions from lay clients to advise on merits and quantum of proposed claims at an early stage. He readily attends court hearings from preliminary hearings through to contested final hearings and has also appeared in the Employment Appeals Tribunal on numerous occasions.
Coronial law (Inquests)
Angus is frequently instructed to represent the full range of core participants at Coroner’s inquests including bereaved families, non-governmental organisations, health professionals and the police. In addition, he has advised Coroners in relation to publicly sensitive investigations. Angus has experience dealing with cases in which the determination of the cause of death are complex and involve the assessment of factual evidence and the opinions of a number of experts.
