A v. LBC, January 2015: Represented the Defendant local authority in a substantial claim arising out of a near fatal accident at a swimming pool. The Claimant presented a claim for brain injury resulting in damaged educational and earnings prospects. Claim settled at a joint settlement meeting at a very early stage in the proceedings.
F v. H, January 2014: Acted for Claimant pro-bono via the Bar Pro Bono Unit over several months in this personal injury claim arising out of a domestic violence incident. The Claimant sustained psychological injury and permanent low level hearing loss. Settlement reached with the Defendant perpetrator in the sum of £30,000.
Harrison v. CICA: At the final hearing in September 2013 the Tribunal agreed to award the Applicant the maximum award under the CICA Scheme of £500,000.
Harrison v. Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (2012) Acted as a junior (via the Bar Pro Bono Unit) on behalf of a client who suffered very serious and traumatic injuries as a result of the bombings on 7 July 2005. The client was awarded £377,000 after a full appeal hearing, plus the right to apply for further funding for prostheses if a funding application to the NHS was unsuccessful.
Ellwood v. Mahmood (2012) Represented an insurer client in a two day trial featuring fraud allegations and surveillance evidence. The Claimant was awarded just over £6,500 out of a claim of over £100,000, and failed to beat the Defendant's part 36 offer. The Judge found that the Claimant had been dishonest and therefore the Defendant's costs were to be assessed on the indemnity basis.
Legetth v. Borchard (2011) Acted for German client in personal injury claim with disputed medical evidence and surveillance evidence. Settled at Joint settlement meeting for £82,500.
Walker v. M.R. Windows (2010) Acted for Claimant in high-value employer's liability case. Employee seriously injured in the course of work, numerous issues regarding his need for future care and likley level of earnings had the accident not occurred. Settled for £500,000 following protracted negotiations.
Burch v. Plymouth City Council (2008) Acted for Claimant in a limitation argument arising in the context of a claim for damages for stress related injury at work, dispute over date of knowledge and exercise of discretion to disapply the limitation argument. Successfully persuaded court to exercise it's discetion under section 33.
Bransgrove v. Vermorel (2008) Acted for Defendant in a multitrack credit hire dispute where the court found there was no need for the Defendant to establish availability of a particular hire car on the day the Claimant had been seeking to hire.
