Richard has spent the last 18 years working in various guises in and around the Justice System.
Richard Served in the police Service for nine years, rapidly rising through the ranks, at the time becoming the youngest sergeant in the country. He went on to achieve the rank of inspector before leaving the police to pursue further study, completing a masters degree in Criminology at the University of Cambridge, and then went on to qualify as a Barrister. On being called to the Bar in 2012 Richard initially worked as a crown prosecutor, before moving on to specialise in criminal defence and family law.
Richard has defended his clients faced with criminal proceedings of the most serious kind. He has experience of sexual offences, drugs offences, violence and regulatory criminal offences, including regulatory charges brought against commercial and individual clients by Local Authorities.
Richard also has extensive experience of Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) applications and appealing confiscation orders.
Richard set up and ran one of the first Bar Standard Board regulated law firms that covered the range of practice areas such as commercial law, property disputes and complex civil litigation. While maintaining a full time legal practice Richard completed a full time masters degree in in Television Journalism at City University and since then has worked for a number of news outlets producing both print and TV journalistic pieces both on and off screen. Richards expertise is Law and criminal justice, he regularly gets asked to sit on panels or act as a commentator in relation to breaking criminal justice news, such as during the terrorist attacks at London Bridge.
Richard moved on from TV journalism to print, working as an investigative journalist for the national newspapers, where his worked involved exposing corruption and scandal.
Richard has a comprehensive and through knowledge of all aspects of the criminal justice system, surveillance techniques and complex investigations. His knowledge and experience makes him an excellent tactician in criminal defence matters and an obvious choice for complex and tactical journalistic investigation.
Richard has extensive experience of family law proceedings and specialises in providing representation for clients at fact-finding hearings where he brings his experience of cross-examination from criminal practice to bear. Richard is at his best when instructed to represent clients in contested hearings of this nature and prides himself on the strength of his courtroom advocacy.
Aside from work, Richard is an avid and dedicated athlete and has become one of the top ultra marathon kayakers in Britain. Aside from kayaking Richard other interests include flying light aircraft, power boating and sailing, all of which he pursues actively throughout the year.
Much like in Richards kayaking, Richard goes the full distance in every matter he takes on.
