Family Law
Mariam will confidently advise and represent clients in relation to injunctive proceedings such as applications for non-molestation orders and occupation orders; or in setting aside such Orders, particularly where the client feels an Order is being unfairly used against him or her Mariam will represent both Applicants and Respondents throughout these proceedings from ex parte (without notice) applications right through to final hearing; and can call in at short notice if the urgency of the case requires it.
Mia also has extensive experience of cases involving allegations of domestic violence and substance abuse with heavy social services and CAFCASS involvement; and is frequently instructed to represent clients in fact-finding hearings.
She has appeared in international cases (including inward and outbound claims in respect of abducted children), cases involving same sex couples, and those involving children conceived via IVF abroad. Mariam will advise in financial remedies, including cases involving substantial assets.
Mia's matrimonial finance practice sees her representing clients throughout proceedings from FDA, FDR and Final Hearings - and any interim application hearings. She accepts instructions to deal with applications to enforce an Order; but can be engaged simply to help you fill out the necessary court forms and no more.
What is she like in Court?
Mia is known in Chambers for her client care and compassion – as well as her analytical skills and ability to ‘read the courtroom’. Her skills as an advocate and commitment to ensuring that each client has the advice and support needed to make informed choices about how his or her case is conducted, is evident from client feedback alone. See her Testimonials.
Mia’s central focus in Children cases is around the unification of families, and if that means using an alternative dispute resolution process such as the provision of pre-action advice, ENE (Early Neutral Evaluation) or indeed any other method to build bridges and take any unnecessary heat out of a situation, she will put your child(ren)’s needs above anything else.
Mia developed her robust advocacy in the criminal courts where she spent 12 years from 2002 working for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in London in a senior litigative frontline role. She ended her career there as a Senior Crown Prosecutor on the Central London Crown Court team. She therefore has a wide and varied experience of a full range of criminal matters. Mia has successfully carried her forthright court manner over into her family practice. She is most at home when on her feet representing clients in contested final hearings and fact-finds.
She appears at inquests for a range of interested parties, including families, local authorities, employers, and statutory bodies. Mia will take on pro bono work for the right client and will consider discounted rates for British Army and NHS. She is bi-lingual in Arabic
