PRACTICE
She is developing a busy common law practice and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers' fields of expertise. Natalie has a particular interest in property and landlord and tenant disputes.
PROPERTY AND LANDLORD & TENANT
Natalie regularly advises in both private and public landlord possession proceedings. In particular she has extensive experience of advising and representing tenants in defending possessions claims, including claims for forfeiture, and disrepair cases. She also has experience of advising and representing clients in a broad range of property disputes and the commercial / contractual issues that arise. Natalie has been instructed to deal with applications to strike out and has been instructed in successful emergency injunction applications in the High Court.
Prior to commencing pupillage Natalie worked as a caseworker for a number of charities including Zacchaeus 2000 Trust (Z2K), a London based charity that provides advice and representation to people in extreme poverty. There she represented vulnerable people in Social Security Appeal Tribunals and assisted in possession proceedings. Natalie is committed to fighting the causes of inequality and poverty and is currently a trustee of Z2K.
EMPLOYMENT
Natalie undertakes both Claimant and Respondent work in Employment Tribunals and has experience in areas including unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, and sex and religious discrimination. Natalie has also represented Claimants through the Free Representative Unit (FRU) in matters including, unlawful deduction of wages, holiday pay and national minimum wage claims. She also accepts instructions to advise and draft pleadings in all employment and discrimination related matters. Natalie contributes to Thomas More Chambers employment law newsletters.
GENERAL CIVIL
Natalie welcomes instructions for both the claimant and defendant in small claims, fast track, and multi-track trials. Natalie is happy to advise on the telephone or in writing and is experienced in settling and drafting pleadings. She also accepts instructions under the Treasury Solicitor's "Baby Barrister" scheme.
In 2013 Natalie completed a secondment at the HMRC Solicitors Office Insolvency Litigation Unit. There she gained a substantial amount of experience in a wide range of personal and corporate insolvency litigation in both the High Court and County Court.
GENERAL CRIME
Natalie both defends and prosecutes serious cases in the Crown, Magistrates' and Youth Courts. She has a particular interest in defending both young and vulnerable clients and prior to joining chambers Natalie chaired Merton Youth Offending Team's Referral Order Panels where she worked with young offenders and victims to administer restorative sentences handed down by the Youth Court. Natalie has also mentored young people at risk of offending and she worked with Just for Kids law, a charity exclusively representing young people in criminal, education and community care proceedings.
Natalie was awarded the Inner Temple Sir Joseph Priestley Scholarship for an internship in 2014 with the African Prisons Project (APP) in Kampala, Uganda. During the internship Natalie tutored prisoners on death-row and ex-prisoners who are currently enrolled on a distance learning LLB course with the University of London International Programme. She also provided vocational training to Susan Kigula, a prisoner that led 417 others in the landmark Ugandan Supreme Court case of Attorney General v Kigula and 417 ors [2009] UGSC 6. This case successfully challenged the mandatory death penalty in Uganda. Natalie also led a mitigation skills workshop with prisoners in the Luzira Maximum Security Women’s Prison.
